The laboratory’s main activity is physics research in the field of fundamental interactions (infinitely small and infinitely large), both experimentally, with experiments on particle accelerator or telescopes, and theoretically. The laboratory is multidisciplinary, and its activities also extend into the fields of health and environment, drawing on the laboratory’s know-how in fundamental and instrumental aspects.

The laboratory is also highly involved in student training, notably in partnership with the University, and in disseminating knowledge to the general public and primary and secondary education.
